Major European carriers including Lufthansa, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic are expanding their flight capacity to India, responding to rising travel demand and recent geopolitical shifts. The move comes as airlines adjust their operations following easing tensions in the Middle East region.
The Lufthansa Group has announced significant additions to its summer 2026 schedule. This includes two extra weekly flights from Frankfurt to Chennai and Delhi, one additional flight to Hyderabad, and another from Munich to Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Swiss International Air Lines has already added seven weekly flights to Delhi, further boosting connectivity.
Airlines are reallocating capacity from Middle East routes to India, making efficient use of aircraft and resources that were underutilized during the recent regional disruptions. This strategic shift allows carriers to quickly respond to changing booking trends driven by both tourism and business travel demand.
With these expansions, European airlines aim to strengthen their presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. The increased capacity is expected to improve seat availability and offer passengers more flexible travel options during the peak summer season.
