Toronto Pearson International Airport has officially launched a massive $3-billion redevelopment project aimed at transforming Canada’s busiest airport over the next decade. The “Pearson LIFT” program is designed to prepare the airport for future growth, with passenger numbers expected to reach 65 million annually by the early 2030s.

The first phase of the project will focus on major infrastructure upgrades, including advanced baggage handling systems, expanded taxiways, additional aircraft parking stands, improved runway technology, and large-scale terminal modernization. Airport officials also confirmed plans to introduce more EV charging infrastructure as part of Pearson’s long-term sustainability goals.

According to airport authorities, the upgrades are expected to help Pearson accommodate nearly 30,000 additional passengers every day while improving operational efficiency and reducing delays. The modernization comes as international travel demand continues to rise ahead of major global events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The multi-billion-dollar expansion is also expected to create around 16,000 jobs during the construction phase, providing a major boost to the local economy. Officials say the long-term vision is to deliver a faster, smoother, and more modern travel experience for millions of passengers in the years ahead.
