Airbus and Lufthansa Group have celebrated 50 years of partnership at the opening of the ILA Berlin Air Show on June 10, 2026. The historic relationship began in 1976 when Lufthansa received the very first Airbus A300 ever built.

The milestone event also highlighted Lufthansa’s upcoming achievement of receiving its 700th Airbus aircraft later this year, making it the first airline in the world to reach this number. Airbus said the achievement reflects decades of cooperation that helped shape Germany’s aviation industry.

Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr noted that the airline has received more aircraft from Airbus production lines in Toulouse and Hamburg than any other carrier globally and has played a key role as a launch customer for several Airbus aircraft programs.

During the ceremony, both companies also signed a new agreement covering component services for Lufthansa’s entire Airbus A220 fleet. Sustainability was also a key focus, with Airbus and Lufthansa showcasing a new SharkSkin coating technology for the A330 designed to reduce fuel consumption.

Lufthansa recently confirmed an order for 10 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, increasing its total A350 orders to 75, including upcoming A350-1000 deliveries. The companies said the five-decade partnership continues to grow with future aviation innovations ahead.
