A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 was involved in a ground incident at Memphis International Airport after being struck by a ground equipment vehicle while passengers were boarding on Sunday.
The aircraft, operating as Southwest Flight 4013, was contacted by the ground vehicle during the boarding process. Emergency teams, including airport police and the Memphis Fire Department, responded to the scene after the collision, with footage showing the vehicle had impacted the underside of the aircraft.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew. Southwest removed the aircraft from service as a precautionary measure and arranged another aircraft to continue the passengers’ journey.
The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority described the event as an isolated incident and confirmed that normal airport operations continued. Southwest said the incident will be reviewed through its Safety Management System as part of its commitment to passenger and employee safety.
