A 23-year-old cab driver has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting an IndiGo cabin crew member while transporting her to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for duty.
According to police, the incident occurred on 20 July, when the 37-year-old crew member was travelling in an airline-arranged cab from her residence in Shamshabad to the airport. The accused, identified as E. Prashant Kumar, allegedly took a detour, claiming he needed a restroom break, before stopping the vehicle near an under-construction building.
Authorities allege the driver sexually and physically assaulted the crew member before fleeing after construction workers intervened. The victim later lodged a complaint with RGIA Police, who arrested the accused the following day. He has since been remanded to judicial custody and booked on charges including rape and assault.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of airline crew members using company-arranged transportation. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
