Finnair Launches First-Ever Australia Route to Melbourne.

Finnair is set to inaugurate daily scheduled services between Helsinki and Melbourne on October 25, 2026, marking the Finnish flag carrier’s first entry into the Australian market.

The approximately 22-hour journey will operate via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, where each flight will make a technical stop of just under two hours. The stop is designed to accommodate aircraft range limitations and flight crew duty-time requirements.

The airline will deploy Airbus A350 widebody aircraft on the route, with three to four pilots assigned per sector to support required in-flight rest rotations during the long-haul operation.

The service will also benefit from fifth-freedom traffic rights, allowing passengers to book the Bangkok–Melbourne sector independently, without travelling on the full Helsinki–Melbourne itinerary.

The new route will establish a direct commercial link between Finland and Australia through Bangkok, expanding Finnair’s long-haul network and offering passengers additional travel options between Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia.
