Air Greenland has operated its first Airbus A330 flight to the newly opened runway at Ilulissat Airport in Greenland, marking a major milestone in the region’s airport expansion project.

The new runway measures 2,200 metres, improving access to Ilulissat, a key gateway to North Greenland and the spectacular Disko Bay region.

The flight on October 29, 2026, marked the opening of the new international airport and completed Greenland’s latest three-airport expansion programme, following the opening of new airports in Nuuk and Qaqortoq. Greenland Airports+1

The expanded facilities are expected to improve international connectivity, support tourism and business, and make the region’s famous Ilulissat Icefjord more accessible to visitors.
