The D-ATRA (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft), an Airbus A320 operated as a flying test platform, has been fitted with a Eurofighter-style nose to support testing of the new AESA Mk1 radar system.
The modified aircraft is being used to evaluate the advanced radar technology in flight. Using an A320 as a testbed offers advantages over the Eurofighter, including longer flight durations and a faster approval process for testing.
This approach allows engineers to conduct radar trials more efficiently while reducing the need to use an operational fighter aircraft for extended testing activities.
