Air Canada is set to significantly boost capacity on its South America network for the Northern winter 2026–27 season by deploying larger aircraft on key routes from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Flights between Toronto and Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport will be upgraded from the Boeing 787-9 to the higher-capacity Boeing 777-300ER from December 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027. The service will operate three times per week, offering a notable increase in available seats during the peak travel period.

A similar upgrade is planned for the Toronto–Santiago International Airport route, where the 777-300ER will replace the 787-9 from November 30, 2026, to February 27, 2027. This route will run four times weekly, further strengthening Air Canada’s connectivity to South America.

With the Boeing 777-300ER offering around 400 seats, the move represents a significant capacity boost aimed at meeting strong seasonal demand from both leisure and business travelers. The airline’s strategy reflects growing interest in South American destinations during the winter months, while also enhancing operational efficiency on high-demand routes.
