An Air India passenger could face a no-fly ban after allegedly damaging an aircraft window during a flight from Chandigarh to Delhi on June 7. The incident reportedly occurred after the passenger repeatedly tampered with the window despite several warnings from cabin crew.
According to reports, crew members issued multiple verbal warnings and later provided a written warning after the passenger continued interfering with the window assembly. Shortly before landing, the inner pane of the window allegedly cracked, prompting the crew to assess the situation and notify the flight deck.
The aircraft continued safely to Delhi and landed without incident. Air India later clarified that the damaged component was the non-structural inner pane of the window and that the safety of the aircraft was never compromised. Upon arrival, the passenger was handed over to airport security and the matter was reported to the relevant authorities.
The airline has referred the case to its Internal Committee, which will review the incident and determine whether the traveler should be classified as an unruly passenger. If approved, the individual could be added to Air India’s no-fly list. Aviation experts note that while aircraft windows consist of multiple layers and the outer pane carries the structural load, any intentional damage to aircraft components is treated as a serious safety and security concern.
