AirAsia X has seen a significant surge in its operations, with a 33% increase in passengers in 2024 following the addition of new flights to Kenya and Kazakhstan using its Airbus A330 aircraft. The airline, alongside its affiliate AirAsia X Thailand, carried a total of 5.6 million passengers in 2024, up from 4.2 million in 2023. This growth reflects not only an increase in passenger traffic but also an expansion of flight offerings, with the airlines collectively operating 18,570 flights, a 32% rise from the previous year’s 14,098 flights.

One of the major contributors to this growth has been the addition of long-haul destinations, including direct services to Kenya and Kazakhstan. These new routes have enabled AirAsia X to tap into previously underserved markets, further diversifying its global network and attracting more passengers. The airline’s decision to expand its fleet and operate more Airbus A330-300s has been pivotal in accommodating this increased demand, as 27 out of 28 Airbus A330-300s in the fleet are now in active service. In addition to AirAsia X’s success, its Thai affiliate has also played a significant role in the overall growth. AirAsia X Thailand added two Airbus A330s in 2024, contributing to the expanded network and improved capacity. The ongoing fleet upgrades and the strategic route expansions have allowed both airlines to strengthen their position in the competitive long-haul travel market. The increased passenger numbers and fleet expansion underline AirAsia X’s commitment to growth and providing affordable long-haul travel options. With a clear focus on expanding its international footprint, the airline continues to offer a diverse range of destinations, making air travel more accessible for passengers seeking affordable flights across the globe. As AirAsia X looks ahead, the introduction of additional destinations and an expanding fleet are set to drive further growth in the years to come.
