All eight people aboard a charter aircraft were killed after a Cessna 441 operated by Security Aviation crashed in remote western Alaska on Thursday.
The aircraft had departed Anchorage for Cape Newenham, a remote Air Force radar site on the Bering Sea coast. It crashed around 12:15 p.m. near the site’s airstrip, carrying two pilots and six passengers.
Air Force pararescuers from the 212th Rescue Squadron reached the wreckage and confirmed there were no survivors. Authorities said those killed were personnel connected to the remote radar mission.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is sending investigators from Seattle and Anchorage to examine the accident, weather permitting. The victims’ names will be released after their families have been notified.
