American Airlines flight attendant Carol Fair is retiring on October 26, 2026, bringing an extraordinary 63-year career in aviation to a close at the age of 83.
Fair began her career with Piedmont Airlines in 1963, flying aboard twin-engine Martin 404 propeller aircraft. One of the significant milestones in her career came on June 15, 1987, when she served as a cabin crew member on Piedmont’s first transatlantic flight from Charlotte to London.
Following the airline’s mergers and transitions through USAir and US Airways, Fair eventually joined American Airlines. Over the decades, she continued serving passengers and became the airline’s most senior active flight attendant among approximately 30,000 colleagues.
Her final working flight, American Airlines flight AA733 from London Heathrow, is scheduled to arrive in Charlotte at 4:40 p.m. on Monday. Airport teams are planning a special water salute to mark her retirement and celebrate her remarkable service.
Fair’s retirement marks the end of a career spanning more than six decades, reflecting a lifetime of dedication to aviation and passenger service across generations of aircraft, airlines and travellers.
