The Ministry of Civil Aviation is developing a new tool aimed at integrating airspace and meteorological data into the Gati Shakti portal, a national infrastructure planning platform. This initiative is designed to enhance infrastructure planning by incorporating critical aviation and weather data, providing a comprehensive view of airspace management and weather patterns that will improve decision-making processes for aviation and infrastructure development.
To bring this project to fruition, the ministry is collaborating with the Gandhinagar-based Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), which specializes in satellite communication, geo-informatics, and geospatial technologies. The collaboration leverages BISAG-N’s expertise in satellite-based data and geographic information systems to develop a robust tool that integrates airspace data and meteorological insights into the Gati Shakti portal.
The Gati Shakti portal, launched by the Indian government to expedite infrastructure development, currently integrates data related to roads, railways, ports, and airports. The addition of airspace and weather data is expected to provide planners and policymakers with a more holistic understanding of infrastructure needs, particularly in sectors like aviation, where weather conditions and airspace management play crucial roles in operational efficiency and safety.
The integration of airspace data will help improve the coordination of air traffic, facilitating smoother operations for airlines and reducing delays. Meteorological data will assist in making more informed decisions about weather-related disruptions, enhancing flight safety and providing better forecasting for flight scheduling.
This move is part of the Indian government’s broader push to modernize and streamline infrastructure planning, ensuring that aviation, one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country, operates more efficiently and safely. The development of this tool, expected to be implemented soon, will bring significant improvements to India’s infrastructure planning processes, aligning them with modern technological advancements.
By incorporating airspace and meteorological data into the Gati Shakti portal, India aims to ensure better coordination between various infrastructure sectors, ultimately improving the efficiency of transportation networks across the country and boosting the growth of the aviation industry.
