In a rare mid-air event, ITA Airways has confirmed the birth of a baby boy onboard flight AZ855, marking a first for the airline. The mother went into early labor at seven months, around an hour after the flight departed from Dakar en route to Rome.

Cabin crew acted swiftly, coordinating with a doctor and nurse who were among the passengers. With their assistance, the baby was safely delivered at cruising altitude, turning the flight into an unexpected but successful medical emergency response.

The aircraft continued its journey and landed safely at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, where medical teams were ready to assist. Both the mother and newborn are reported to be in perfect health.

The incident highlights the importance of crew training and teamwork, as well as the unpredictable nature of air travel, with the airline celebrating a truly special moment in its history.
