A Cathay Pacific trainee was allegedly held at knifepoint inside the airline’s staff lounge at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on September 12 after a man reportedly followed another employee through a restricted entrance. Police were called to the Terminal 1 lounge and arrested the suspect after a brief standoff.
The trainee, identified by the surname Huang, reportedly suffered cuts to his right hand and an abdominal injury during the incident. Police eventually subdued the suspect and took him into custody, while the trainee was taken to hospital for treatment.
The suspect, identified as a 44-year-old man surnamed Tsai, had reportedly entered the staff-only area after arriving at the airport intending to travel to Hong Kong. Police later found suspected drugs and related paraphernalia among his belongings. Authorities are investigating the circumstances and charges against him.
Cathay Pacific confirmed that an unauthorized person had entered its staff lounge and was arrested. The airline said it was concerned about the trainee’s condition and would provide assistance while cooperating with the authorities’ investigation.
