Government, DGCA Closely Monitor SpiceJet.

The Indian government and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are closely monitoring SpiceJet’s financial and operational situation, Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said. The airline has been facing pressure from a shrinking operational fleet, declining domestic market share and reported salary-payment delays.

SpiceJet’s domestic market share fell to 1.6% in July, down from 1.9% in June and 3.9% in February. The airline currently has around 11 operational aircraft, while sources cited by PTI said many employees have not received salaries since May.

To strengthen its capacity ahead of the winter travel season, SpiceJet has finalised lease agreements for 20 aircraft — 15 Boeing and five Airbus jets. The aircraft are expected to join the fleet in phases between mid-October and mid-November, supporting both domestic and international operations.

The government and DGCA’s continued monitoring comes as SpiceJet works to restore fleet capacity and address its financial and operational challenges.
