In a bid to improve passenger convenience and comfort, Chennai International Airport will soon have an air-conditioned tube connecting its domestic and international terminals to the multi-level car parking facility. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced plans to complete this new structure within the next six months.

The move comes in response to growing passenger complaints about the inconvenience caused by the recent relocation of the cab pick-up point. In a bid to better organize traffic and improve airport infrastructure, AAI moved the cab pick-up area to the multi-level car park. However, this change led to passengers having to walk long distances, often while dragging heavy trolleys or carrying their baggage, to reach their cabs. This has proven particularly challenging during hot and humid weather conditions, leading to frequent complaints from passengers, many of whom have expressed their frustration on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

With the new air-conditioned tube, passengers will be able to seamlessly walk from both the domestic and international terminals to the car park without being exposed to the elements. The tube will ensure that passengers, particularly those with heavy luggage or those traveling in extreme weather, can board their cabs in comfort. The facility will provide a much-needed solution to the logistical challenges that have arisen since the relocation of the pick-up point.

The decision to introduce the air-conditioned tube highlights the airport authority’s responsiveness to passenger feedback and its commitment to improving the overall experience at Chennai International Airport. As air travel demand continues to rise, enhancing passenger convenience with infrastructure upgrades such as this will be key to maintaining the airport’s reputation as a modern and efficient hub.

In addition to the air-conditioned tube, AAI has also been working on other upgrades to the airport, including expanding its passenger facilities and improving amenities to meet growing demand. The air-conditioned tube project is expected to be a welcome addition for travelers who are increasingly looking for a more comfortable and hassle-free airport experience.

With the air-conditioned tube set to be ready in the coming months, passengers can look forward to smoother and more pleasant transitions between the terminals and the car park, ensuring their journey from the airport to their destination is a little bit easier.
