China Southern Introduces Inflight Stretching Sessions.

Passengers traveling on long-haul flights with China Southern Airlines are being encouraged to stay active in the air through a unique wellness initiative led by cabin crew. The airline has introduced coordinated mid-flight stretching sessions designed to improve passenger comfort and reduce the effects of sitting for extended periods during long journeys.

Known as “Cloud Baduanjin,” the program is based on traditional Chinese qigong exercises and has been specially adapted for use onboard aircraft. The routine includes simple seated stretches, arm movements, waist rotations, neck exercises, ankle rolls, and controlled breathing techniques aimed at promoting circulation and relaxation during flight.

The initiative recently attracted global attention after videos showing entire aircraft cabins participating in the exercises went viral on social media. On selected flagship long-haul routes, cabin crew members demonstrate the movements in the aisles while passengers follow along from their seats, creating an engaging and interactive inflight experience.

China Southern developed the aircraft-friendly wellness program in collaboration with experts from Guangzhou Sport University before expanding it from domestic services to international long-haul flights. Many travelers have praised the airline for focusing on passenger wellbeing, with some saying the stretching sessions have become one of the highlights of flying on journeys lasting more than 10 hours.
