In response to mounting criticism from opposition parties and activists regarding the proposed airport project in Parandur, the Tamil Nadu State government issued a clarification on Tuesday, February 20, 2025. The government announced that it would begin disbursing compensation to landowners affected by the project in March 2025, with the full process expected to be completed by May 2025.

The Parandur airport, part of the state’s plan to enhance infrastructure and bolster economic growth, has sparked controversy due to concerns about its environmental impact and the displacement of local communities. Activists and political opponents have argued that the project could lead to the loss of agricultural land and harm local ecosystems. They have also expressed concerns about the adequacy of compensation for landowners whose properties are being acquired.

In response to these concerns, the state government assured the public that the compensation process would be handled in a transparent and equitable manner, in line with legal and regulatory frameworks. The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring that affected landowners receive fair compensation, as well as addressing any additional concerns regarding the relocation process.

The completion of the compensation disbursal by May 2025 is expected to pave the way for the next phases of the Parandur airport project, which is part of a larger plan to improve air connectivity in the region. However, the project continues to face significant opposition, and it remains to be seen whether the government can alleviate the concerns of critics and secure broad public support for its ambitious infrastructure plans.
