Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly developed Satna Airport today, marking a significant milestone in enhancing regional air connectivity in Madhya Pradesh. The inauguration was part of a series of developmental projects launched by the Prime Minister during his visit to Bhopal, including the inauguration of Datia Airport and the Indore Metro Rail Project.
Satna Airport, developed at a cost of ₹37 crore, features a 1,200-meter-long runway capable of accommodating 19-seater aircraft. The airport is equipped with modern facilities, including airport security, an ambulance, a meteorological center, an emergency assembly hall, and a backup power system.
The airport’s strategic location is expected to boost economic activities in the region, particularly benefiting the cement industry, as Satna contributes approximately 8–9% of India’s total cement production. Additionally, the airport will facilitate tourism to nearby cultural and religious sites, such as Maihar and Chitrakoot. (MagicBricks)
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the aerodrome license to Satna Airport in December 2024, allowing it to operate under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions. The airport is part of the Government of India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, aimed at enhancing regional air connectivity.
The inauguration of Satna Airport is expected to generate employment opportunities in aviation and allied sectors, improve trade logistics, and provide faster travel options for residents and businesses in the region. The airport’s operation is anticipated to significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Satna and surrounding areas.
The first flight from Satna Airport took off today, carrying six tribal women to Rewa, symbolizing the airport’s commitment to inclusivity and regional development. (MagicBricks)
