The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has rejected Akasa Air’s candidate for the position of Director of Training following an interview conducted on January 28, citing “unsatisfactory performance.” Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the aviation regulator found the candidate’s qualifications and responses inadequate for the role.
This move comes just a week after the DGCA suspended the airline’s Directors of Operations and Training for six months due to alleged lapses in pilot training procedures. The suspension was issued after a regulatory audit revealed concerns with the airline’s training practices. Specifically, the DGCA found that Required Navigation Performance (RNP) approaches were being conducted on simulators that were not qualified for such training, violating the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) guidelines.The audit, which took place on October 7, 2024, at Akasa Air’s training facility in Mumbai, uncovered significant issues regarding the certification and safety of training equipment.
