FAA Boosts Aviation Training With $26M.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a major investment aimed at strengthening the future aviation workforce across the United States. On May 18, 2026, US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy confirmed that the agency will provide $26 million in funding for aviation training programs nationwide.

The funding will support the development of future pilots, aircraft mechanics, drone operators, and aviation maintenance technicians. According to officials, the new investment is nearly double the $13.5 million awarded under similar programs during fiscal year 2024, highlighting the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals.

The total amount will be equally divided between two FAA grant programs. Around $13 million will focus on pilot and drone operator education, while another $13 million will be dedicated to training aviation mechanics and maintenance technicians. The grants will help fund internships, apprenticeships, scholarships, outreach programs, and simulator-based pilot training initiatives.

Speaking on the announcement, Duffy said the aviation sector continues to witness record passenger demand, making workforce development essential for maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards. The funding opportunity is open to educational institutions, aviation organizations, nonprofits, air carriers, labor groups, and government bodies. Applications for the grants will remain open until June 18, 2026.
