Frankfurt Airport officially closed Terminal 2 on June 9, 2026, as part of a major €1.5 billion modernization program aimed at transforming the facility for future passenger growth. Airlines previously operating from the terminal have now been relocated to the airport’s newly opened Terminal 3.

The redevelopment project is designed to modernize infrastructure, improve passenger experience, and enhance operational efficiency at one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs. While preparatory work has already begun, the main phase of construction is expected to start in 2030.

Once completed, the revamped Terminal 2 will feature upgraded facilities, modern technology, and enhanced passenger services. Airport officials expect the terminal to play a key role in supporting Frankfurt Airport’s long-term growth strategy.

The renovated terminal is scheduled to reopen in the mid-2030s and is expected to handle more than 10 million passengers annually, further strengthening Frankfurt’s position as one of Europe’s leading international gateways.
