Developed by General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH, the aircraft completed its maiden flight on May 2, 2026, before being officially rolled out in full livery on June 8 at Oberpfaffenhofen.

The aircraft can accommodate up to 19 passengers and is designed for a wide range of missions, including regional transport, surveillance and special operations.
The first production aircraft has already been sold to a non-governmental organization, although the customer’s identity has not yet been disclosed. Delivery is scheduled for 2027, marking the beginning of commercial operations for the new variant.
General Atomics AeroTec Systems plans to produce up to five Do228 NXT aircraft annually at its Oberpfaffenhofen facility, supporting growing demand for modern, multi-role turboprop aircraft in both civilian and specialized markets.
