IndiGo Replaces Boeing 787 With A321XLR on Amsterdam Route.

IndiGo is preparing to end its ACMI lease arrangement for six Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways, with the aircraft expected to leave its operations by the end of October.

As part of the transition, the Indian airline plans to deploy the Airbus A321XLR on its Mumbai–Amsterdam route, replacing the larger Boeing 787 widebody. Meanwhile, flights to London Heathrow will be suspended until IndiGo receives its Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

Despite these changes, IndiGo remains focused on expanding its international network. The airline has ordered 40 Airbus A321XLRs and 60 Airbus A350-900s to support its long-term growth plans.

IndiGo aims to increase international capacity from 30% to 40% by fiscal year 2030. The strategy marks a shift from leased widebody operations towards a planned Airbus fleet, combining the A321XLR’s extended range with the A350-900’s greater capacity for long-haul expansion.
