A passenger aboard a JetBlue flight has shared a video allegedly showing a rat moving through the cabin ceiling, prompting concerns about onboard safety and hygiene. The footage, posted on social media, appears to show the animal scurrying behind the aircraft’s blue ambient lighting during a recent flight.
According to passenger Britney Nicole, who said she was traveling in JetBlue’s Mint cabin, the rodent could be seen moving above passengers through a translucent ceiling panel. The aircraft’s mood lighting inadvertently highlighted the animal’s path, making the unusual sight visible throughout the darkened cabin.
While some online users reacted humorously to the incident, aviation experts note that rodents onboard aircraft can pose serious safety risks. Rats and mice are capable of damaging electrical wiring, insulation, and other critical aircraft systems, while also presenting potential health concerns through the spread of disease and parasites.
JetBlue has acknowledged the report and reportedly apologized to the passenger, requesting additional flight details to assist with an investigation. If confirmed, the aircraft would likely undergo a comprehensive inspection, pest-control treatment, and maintenance checks before returning to regular service.
