Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has criticized SpiceJet after a video of its cabin crew dancing to the Bollywood song Balam Pichkari during a flight went viral online. While the airline described the performance as a festive celebration ahead of Holi, Chaturvedi questioned whether such acts were appropriate, emphasizing that airlines should prioritize passenger safety and punctuality.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chaturvedi expressed her disapproval, writing, “How is this okay? Ridiculous levels to gain popularity. Airlines need to work on safety and on-time arrival/departure, not on live entertainment.” Her remarks highlight growing concerns about professionalism and operational efficiency within the aviation sector.
The viral video, which shows SpiceJet crew members performing inside the aircraft, was shared widely across social media platforms. SpiceJet, in its defense, positioned the dance as a gesture to engage with passengers and celebrate the festive spirit of Holi. However, the video has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the airline’s effort to create a lively atmosphere and others echoing Chaturvedi’s concerns about maintaining decorum and focusing on core operational responsibilities.
This is not the first time an airline has faced scrutiny for in-flight performances. Similar incidents in the past have raised questions about balancing customer engagement with safety regulations and service efficiency.
As the debate continues, SpiceJet has yet to issue a formal response to Chaturvedi’s criticism. Meanwhile, the video remains a talking point on social media, drawing attention to the fine line between creative customer experiences and maintaining professional standards in the aviation industry.
