Sweden Announces Major Gripen Fighter Package For Ukraine.

Sweden has announced a major defense support package for Ukraine, including the transfer and purchase of advanced Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets.

Under the agreement, Sweden will donate 16 Gripen C/D aircraft to Ukraine at no cost. In addition, Ukraine will use around €2.5 billion from a European Union loan to purchase 20 next-generation Gripen E/F fighters.

The package, valued at approximately $2.7 billion, also includes advanced long-range weapons, including MBDA Meteor missile systems capable of engaging targets at distances of more than 200 kilometers.

The Gripen aircraft are known for their advanced avionics, operational flexibility, and ability to operate from shorter runways, making them a significant addition to Ukraine’s future air combat capabilities.

Sweden’s announcement marks one of the country’s largest aviation-related defense commitments and highlights continued international efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities.
