The number of technical glitches reported by Indian airlines has seen a significant reduction over the last three years, according to data provided by the government. In the period from January 2024 to January 2025, Indian airlines reported a total of 273 technical issues across 10,69,680 flights. This is a notable decrease compared to previous years.

In 2023, there were 390 technical faults reported for 11,94,777 flights, while in 2022, the number was much higher at 723 issues for 9,97,041 flights. The official data, presented on Monday, highlights a downward trend in technical glitches, which has been encouraging for both the aviation industry and passengers alike.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu confirmed that the data from the past three years shows a consistent decrease in the frequency of technical snags across Indian airlines. He clarified that technical glitches are common in the aviation industry and can occur due to various factors, including malfunctioning components, systems, or accessories fitted on aircraft. However, he reassured that these issues are regularly monitored and managed to ensure passenger safety.

This improvement in technical performance is seen as a positive development for India’s aviation sector, which has witnessed rapid growth in recent years. The reduction in glitches suggests better maintenance practices and a more proactive approach to managing aircraft systems, contributing to enhanced safety and operational efficiency.

As the aviation industry continues to expand, both domestically and internationally, the government and airline operators remain focused on ensuring that these technical issues continue to decrease. With the safety of passengers as a top priority, the reduction in technical snags reflects the commitment to maintaining high standards in the country’s aviation infrastructure.
