Operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport faced disruption on Sunday evening after three parked Air India aircraft were taken out of service following a ground equipment collision caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The incident occurred at around 4:40 PM in aircraft parking bays near Terminal 2 of the airport. According to reports, severe weather conditions caused ground support equipment to move uncontrollably, resulting in collisions with three parked Air India aircraft.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as there were no personnel present in the affected parking area at the time of the incident. Airport and airline officials quickly secured the area and began assessing the extent of the damage to the aircraft involved.
The damaged aircraft have been temporarily withdrawn from operations for detailed inspections and repairs. The incident highlights the challenges airports face during extreme weather conditions, particularly in ensuring the safety of aircraft and ground equipment during high winds and heavy rain.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and review safety procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
