Turkish Airlines is looking to significantly expand its operations in India, aiming to double the number of flights between the two countries in response to growing demand. According to the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, the move is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity and provide more travel options for both leisure and business travelers.

India has become an increasingly important market for Turkish Airlines, with a noticeable surge in Indian tourists visiting Turkey. In the first half of 2024 alone, there was a remarkable 33.2% increase in the number of Indian visitors to Turkey, with 165,000 travelers arriving from the country. This surge in tourism has been attributed to a growing interest in exploring Turkey’s rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and modern attractions.

Top destinations for Indian tourists in Turkey include Istanbul, where iconic sites such as the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar continue to draw large crowds. Other popular locations include the surreal rock formations of Cappadocia, the mineral-rich terraces and hot springs of Pamukkale, and the coastal beauty of Bodrum and Antalya, which are known for their luxurious resorts, beaches, and ancient ruins.

In response to the increasing interest, Turkish Airlines aims to make travel between India and Turkey more convenient, offering more flight options for Indian passengers. The airline’s expansion into smaller cities, in addition to major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, will help cater to the growing number of travelers from across India, including those from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

This move aligns with Turkish Airlines’ broader global strategy to strengthen its position as a major international carrier by tapping into emerging markets, with India being one of the most promising regions for tourism and business travel. The airline’s focus on enhancing travel links between Turkey and India is set to benefit both nations, fostering closer ties and supporting the growing demand for cross-cultural exchanges.
