Two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, are set to travel from China to Atlanta in the coming days under a new conservation agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association.
Ping Ping, a male, and Fu Shuang, a female, were born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The aircraft carrying them has not yet been announced, but panda transport has a long history in aviation.
In October 2024, a FedEx Boeing 777 freighter transported four pandas from Atlanta back to China before carrying two new pandas to Washington, D.C. The special missions highlight the unique role aircraft have played in transporting giant pandas between China and the United States.
