A special flight carrying 17 American passengers from the MV Hondius landed in Nebraska after health officials raised concerns over a growing hantavirus outbreak linked to the vessel. The evacuation operation was carried out under strict medical precautions as authorities worked to contain potential exposure risks.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, one American passenger tested positive for hantavirus, while another developed symptoms during transport from Tenerife. Both individuals were isolated inside specialized biocontainment units throughout the journey as medical personnel continuously monitored their condition.

Nebraska Medicine confirmed that the infected passenger will receive treatment inside the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit, one of the United States’ highest-security medical isolation facilities designed to manage dangerous infectious diseases safely.

Health investigators are currently monitoring at least 10 confirmed or probable cases connected to the shipboard outbreak. Officials have also reported two confirmed deaths and another suspected fatality potentially linked to the virus, as investigations into the source and spread of the outbreak continue.
