The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has informed the Delhi High Court of significant changes to pilots’ duty regulations, including an increase in their weekly rest period from 36 hours to 48 hours. The new rule will take effect from July 1, 2025, marking a major step toward improving pilots’ health and ensuring safer flight operations across India. This change forms part of the DGCA’s long-term strategy to implement relaxed duty norms for cockpit crew, with the goal of reducing fatigue and enhancing overall flight safety.
As part of the revised framework, the DGCA also revealed plans to reduce night flying duties, with the phased rollout set to begin on November 1, 2025.
