Ascend Airways has announced it will surrender its UK Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) and return its Boeing 737 MAX fleet to lessors, effectively ending its UK operations amid mounting financial and operational pressures.
The airline cited rising fuel costs and a challenging market environment as key reasons behind the decision. Increasing operational expenses have made it difficult for smaller carriers to sustain profitability in the current aviation landscape.
Additionally, structural challenges linked to operating under a UK AOC post-Brexit have further impacted the airline’s business model, including operational limitations and higher compliance costs compared to European competitors.
