A tragic aviation accident claimed five lives after a small twin-engine aircraft crashed Thursday night in the Texas Hill Country, approximately 30 miles southwest of Austin. The incident occurred late on April 30, 2026, leaving the aircraft completely destroyed.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft—identified as a Cessna 421C—went down in a wooded area along Round Rock Road in Wimberley at approximately 11:25 p.m. local time. All five individuals on board were killed in the crash, though authorities have not yet released their identities.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after receiving reports of a loud explosion followed by fire. The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that the aircraft was engulfed in a post-impact fire, leaving no survivors. The plane had departed earlier in the evening from Amarillo and was en route to New Braunfels National Airport.
Preliminary findings from Hays County officials suggest the aircraft was traveling at high speed at the time of impact. Investigators have ruled out a midair collision, noting that another aircraft operating in the vicinity landed safely. Authorities from both the FAA and NTSB are leading the investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
