A British Airways long-haul flight from London Heathrow Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport was cancelled after an unusual ground handling incident involving a Boeing 787-10.
The aircraft, registered G-ZBLJ, was undergoing routine servicing when engineering steps were positioned beneath the forward fuselage while it was still light. After fueling and loading, the aircraft’s weight increased, causing it to settle lower on its landing gear and effectively wedge itself onto the steps, resulting in minor structural dents.
Passengers were informed of the issue, and engineers conducted on-site inspections. The flight was ultimately cancelled, affecting around 500 यात्रियों across outbound and return services. Authorities confirmed the incident was accidental.
The aircraft remains grounded for further checks, while compensation and rebooking processes are underway, potentially costing the airline significantly under UK passenger rights regulations.
