Southwest Airlines has unveiled the first design concepts for its upcoming Southwest Icon Lounges, marking the airline’s first move into airport lounge operations. The new lounges are planned for Austin, Baltimore, Honolulu and Nashville, with all four locations already under construction.

The airline has shared early design concepts, including a rendering of the Nashville lounge. Each location will feature a locally inspired design, with food and drinks reflecting the city it serves. The lounges are expected to provide dedicated spaces for passengers to relax, work, recharge their devices and enjoy refreshments before departure.

Southwest is developing the lounges in partnership with Chase. Access is expected to be available through a new premium Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card issued by Chase, which is also planned to launch in 2027.

The first lounges are expected to begin opening in late 2027. Southwest has also indicated that the initial four locations are only the beginning, with at least seven additional lounges planned over the following several years.

The expansion represents a significant development in Southwest’s customer experience strategy as the airline looks to offer more premium airport services and compete for travellers seeking enhanced pre-flight facilities.
