Etihad Airways has announced an aggressive expansion strategy, unveiling 11 new long-haul routes in just five days, including five to mainland China and six to Africa. The move signals a strong shift from recovery to rapid growth, targeting key global markets for cargo, trade, and transit traffic.

The expansion is closely tied to Etihad’s partnership with China Eastern Airlines, strengthening connectivity between Asia and the Middle East. At the same time, the Africa routes are designed to channel passenger and freight traffic through Abu Dhabi, enhancing the airline’s hub strategy.

Currently operating limited services to China, Etihad will significantly scale up its presence, increasing frequencies and destinations including major hubs like Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, along with key industrial cities such as Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Chengdu. This expansion could boost its China operations by nearly 400%.

All new routes will be operated using the modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, highlighting Etihad’s confidence in demand and long-term network growth, as it aims to strengthen global connectivity between Asia, Africa, and the UAE.
