A safety scare unfolded on IndiGo flight 6E108 after landing, when a passenger’s personal electronic device reportedly caught fire, triggering an emergency evacuation.

The flight, operating from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Chandigarh International Airport, had already arrived and was stationary when the incident occurred on May 5, 2026. According to the airline, the situation was handled immediately, with passengers evacuated onto the tarmac as a precaution.

Videos shared on X showed passengers exiting the aircraft amid reports of smoke inside the cabin. Initial information suggests that around five passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken for medical attention.

The airline confirmed that all passengers were safely moved to the terminal and are being assisted by ground staff. The aircraft will now undergo thorough safety inspections before returning to service.

The incident also brings renewed attention to updated guidelines by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, which restrict the use of power banks onboard and prohibit their storage in overhead compartments due to fire risks.
