IndiGo has pushed Air India Express out of the Amritsar-Hyderabad route, asserting its dominance on the sector. This move comes as competition heats up in the Indian aviation market, where airlines are vying for key domestic routes to capture passenger traffic and boost profitability.

Air India Express recently withdrew from the Amritsar-Hyderabad route, reportedly due to the intensified competition from IndiGo. With its extensive network and high-frequency flights, IndiGo has managed to secure a strong foothold, making it challenging for other carriers to sustain operations on this sector.

The first-mover advantage theory suggests that early entrants to a market gain lasting benefits through brand recognition, customer loyalty, and demand establishment. However, in the aviation industry, experts argue that this advantage only holds if an airline can maintain its position profitably against rivals.

According to an Indian aviation expert, sustaining dominance in aviation requires more than just being the first to enter a market. “Airlines need to continuously optimize operations, maintain competitive pricing, and deliver superior service to hold their position against aggressive competitors,” the expert noted.

IndiGo’s aggressive expansion strategy, supported by a vast fleet and competitive pricing model, has enabled it to capture a significant share of domestic air traffic. By pushing Air India Express out of the Amritsar-Hyderabad route, IndiGo reinforces its market leadership and ability to outmaneuver competitors.

The airline’s dominance on key routes is part of its broader strategy to maintain market share and expand across both domestic and international sectors. As competition continues to intensify, other carriers may face similar challenges in sustaining their presence on profitable routes.
