Qantas has confirmed that nonstop flights between Sydney and New York JFK will begin in mid-2028, becoming the first scheduled commercial nonstop service between Australia and New York. The approximately 18-hour journey will cover nearly 9,950 miles, cutting more than three hours from current one-stop travel times.
The route will be operated using Qantas’ specially configured Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft, developed for its Project Sunrise ultra-long-haul network. Each aircraft will feature 238 seats, including First Class suites, Business Class suites, Premium Economy and Economy, along with a dedicated Wellbeing Zone.
Qantas plans to receive its first of 12 A350-1000ULRs in April 2027. The airline’s Sydney–London Project Sunrise service is scheduled to begin in October 2027, making New York the second major route in the program.
