A historic Boeing 747-422, registered N178UA, now hangs suspended between two towers in downtown Seattle, marking a unique transformation after decades of service. The aircraft first flew in 1990 and spent nearly 27 years with United Airlines, completing thousands of flights and logging over 100,000 hours.
Retired in 2017 when United phased out its 747 fleet, the jet was stored in Victorville before being selected for redevelopment. Engineers dismantled the aircraft, removing its interior, shortening the wings, and transporting it in sections back to Seattle.
Today, the jumbo jet is a centerpiece of the WB1200 project, positioned about 14 feet above ground between two high-rise towers. Its nose, tail, and landing gear remain intact, with its raw aluminum exterior preserved for display.
Once opened, visitors will be able to walk beneath and even enter the aircraft, giving the iconic jet a fitting second life just miles from where it was originally built.
