SpiceJet Faces Salary Crisis and Growing Flight Disruptions.

SpiceJet is facing renewed financial pressure, with employees across engineering, ground operations and other departments reportedly claiming that their May, June, July and August salaries remain unpaid. The allegations come as the airline continues to struggle with operational disruptions.

Employees have reportedly raised concerns over repeated salary delays, with one Delhi Airport ground staff member saying the current situation is the fourth major episode of non-payment they have experienced since 2014. SpiceJet had also faced salary-payment delays earlier in 2026, with the airline saying payments were being released in phases.

At the same time, SpiceJet flights have faced significant delays and cancellations. Recent flight-tracking data showed several Delhi services operating hours behind schedule, adding to passenger frustration and operational challenges.

There are also reports that some fuel suppliers have sought upfront payments before refuelling, reflecting concerns over the airline’s cash position. SpiceJet’s operational fleet has fallen to around 11 aircraft, leaving limited spare capacity to absorb aircraft or crew disruptions.

The government and DGCA are now closely monitoring SpiceJet’s financial and operational situation. The airline has announced plans to induct 20 additional aircraft under damp- and wet-lease agreements, with deliveries expected in phases from mid-October to mid-November.

The combination of delayed salaries, a reduced operational fleet and repeated flight disruptions has raised fresh concerns about SpiceJet’s financial stability and ability to maintain reliable operations.
