Passengers aboard an IndiGo flight from Dubai to Pune on Wednesday night experienced a frustrating delay in retrieving their baggage. Hundreds of travelers were left stranded for nearly two hours at Pune airport as they waited for their luggage, with no assistance provided by the airline or airport authorities. The delay was attributed to a malfunction in the baggage screening machine operated by the airport.
IndiGo flight 6E 1484, which had departed from Dubai at 5:40 pm and was scheduled to arrive in Pune at 10:10 pm, touched down early at 9:40 pm. However, passengers were left waiting for their luggage until around 11:15 pm, negating the benefit of the early arrival and causing significant frustration among those on board.
Retired ACP Bhanupratap Barge, who was traveling with his family, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation. “We were happy when the flight landed ahead of schedule at 9:40 pm, but the luggage only started appearing around 11:15 pm,” he said. He also pointed out the lack of communication, as passengers were left without updates on the baggage status, with no messages displayed on screens and no assistance available.
Barge highlighted additional issues, including the long wait for a cab at the pickup point. “Even after we collected our luggage, it took us 20 minutes for a cab to receive us at the pickup point at Terminal 2,” he noted. He further criticized the lack of security personnel, police, and effective management of the pickup zone, which contributed to severe congestion outside the airport.
