Passenger air traffic across India and South Asia is projected to grow at an average of 7% per year over the next 20 years, driven by a rising middle class, strong economic growth, and expanding airport infrastructure, according to Boeing’s latest forecast.
Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook (CMO) for South Asia estimates the region will require nearly 3,300 new aircraft by 2044 to meet growing demand and replace ageing fleets.
- Fleet Expansion Outlook
The region’s commercial aircraft fleet is expected to grow from 795 aircraft today to 2,925 by 2044, nearly quadrupling in size over two decades. - Dominance of Single-Aisle Aircraft
Almost 90% of new deliveries will be single-aisle jets, reflecting airline focus on flexibility and efficiency for fast-growing short- and medium-haul routes. - Domestic Travel as Key Driver
A shift from rail to air travel, along with continued airport development, will fuel strong growth in domestic passenger traffic. - Growth in Long-Haul Connectivity
The widebody fleet is set to more than triple, expanding international links to the Middle East, Europe, and North America. - Cargo and Freighter Demand Rising
Growth in e-commerce and advanced manufacturing will push the region’s freighter fleet to expand fivefold over the next 20 years. - Industry Perspective
Boeing said airlines will scale fleets, strengthen networks, and invest in skilled personnel and efficient aircraft to support long-term growth across the region.
