IndiGo has increased its crew buffer and pilot-to-aircraft ratio ahead of the expiry of the DGCA’s pilot rest period exemption on February 10. Government officials expect minimal operational disruption as the airline moves back to full compliance with Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms.

  • Crew Buffer Increased:
IndiGo raised its crew buffer from zero in December to around 3% by February to manage pilot availability more effectively.
  • Higher Pilot-to-Aircraft Ratio:
The airline has strengthened its pilot workforce, improving scheduling resilience and reducing the risk of last-minute cancellations.
  • FDTL Compliance Restored:
IndiGo is resuming full adherence to DGCA flight duty and rest regulations after operating under temporary exemptions.
  • Background of December Disruptions:
In December, FDTL violations led to the cancellation of over 5,000 flights, triggering severe passenger disruption.
  • Regulatory Action Taken:
DGCA imposed a record ₹22.2 crore penalty on IndiGo and initiated accountability measures against senior leadership.
