The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department has arrested four passengers, including a foreign national, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in a major drug smuggling case. The operation led to the seizure of hydroponic cannabis worth approximately ₹64 crore.

Officials recovered around 64.39 kg of hydroponic cannabis that had been smuggled into India from Bangkok. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, authorities launched a special surveillance drive targeting passengers arriving from Bangkok, closely inspecting both individuals and their luggage.

During the operation, four suspects—three Indian nationals and one foreign passenger—were detained for questioning. A detailed search of their baggage revealed the concealed narcotics, confirming suspicions of organized smuggling activity.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were tasked with transporting the drugs from Bangkok to Mumbai, where they were to hand over the consignment to local associates. In return, they were promised commissions along with sponsored flight tickets. However, authorities intercepted them before they could exit the airport premises.
