The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced $1.776 billion in grants to modernize airports across 46 U.S. states, with the funding amount symbolically reflecting the year 1776 ahead of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

The investment will support upgrades to runways, taxiways, terminals, airfield lighting, and other critical safety infrastructure. Much of the funding is aimed at maintaining and improving the pavement and operational areas that experience constant wear from thousands of aircraft movements each year, helping airports improve safety and operational efficiency.

Among the largest recipients, Denver International Airport will receive $88.8 million for pavement improvements, while Boise Airport has been awarded $74 million for runway rehabilitation, apron expansion, and new visual guidance lighting.

Other major allocations include $62.4 million for Baltimore/Washington International Airport, $62.2 million for William P. Hobby Airport, $47.6 million for taxiway improvements and a new aircraft rescue and firefighting facility at John F. Kennedy International Airport, $36 million for projects at Orlando International Airport, and $28.1 million for taxiway rehabilitation at Oakland International Airport.

The grants will be distributed through the FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) and Airport Improvement Program (AIP), supporting long-term modernization efforts at airports across the United States.
